Noir

We don’t allow a lot of bond groups to stay at the house, for obvious reasons. Bonded males tend to be possessive and slightly insane. But Narissa and her mates have always stayed with us. Partly because Narissa is our second cousin, and partly because bond groups are stronger than average shifters. They oversee our contacts with the other, smaller packs that splinter off our main one.

I take my time walking over to the room that Narissa and her bond group have always stayed in. Since no one else tends to stay at the house unless there is a pack gathering, Narissa and her mates mostly have an entire wing to themselves.

My mind wanders as I walk, always going back to the same place.

When I get to the door of the room they share, Narissa is already waiting for me outside in the hall. She twirls a short braid by her chin nervously as she leans against a wall.

“Beta,” I say to her by way of greeting.

I barely look at the female as I lean on the wall opposite her. Unless it’s Aylin, I’ve never looked twice at any girl if I’m being entirely honest. At one point, I started to think I wasn’t attracted to females or males. Sure, there were females I fucked for a distraction, for the momentary pleasure of it or maybe because I was drunk or it was far too easy. They would throw themselves at me, not knowing they were dangling themselves above the maw of a lethal beast. Not knowing the monster they were toying with.

But there was no one who could capture my attention, who could make me feel like my eyes were glued to them, and I couldn’t look away. No one but Aylin. I study the pattern of the tile in the hallway floor, but I see her face everywhere. Those perfectly pouty lips. That defiant glint in her silver eyes. Those full, perky breasts just begging to be pinched and sucked on. When I look at my mate, I feel like she’s sucking my soul right out of me and I’m enjoying every bit of it.

I can feel her now upstairs with Ace and Bane, stirring from her slumber. The more time we spend together, the more acutely I become aware of her every feeling and movement. Of the changes in her moods.

Narissa pushes off the wall and toys with her fingers.

“Alpha Noir,” says Narissa as she bows her head submissively.

“Did you get what I asked for?” I ask, trying not to waste any time.

Narissa grimaces. “Alpha Noir...respectfully, I don’t like this,” she says quietly. “Any of it.”

I snarl and open my mouth to retort, when all of a sudden, I feel a burst of unexpected heat flood my veins. It isn’t coming from me, though. It’s my mate. Aylin...I can feel her. And worse, I can feel what she’s feeling. The ecstasy that is flooding through her veins is undeniable. My ears change to those of a wolf’s, and they twitch to listen in on whatever is going on upstairs.
